Professional Web Development for Business

Event Event Name:Business Forum Event Summary:How do the Business Forum events work and who should attend?

Companies present their strategic issues and ask the audience for feedback on a number of points regarding their future plans. A guest commentator will give his view on the relevant company presentation to help facilitate discussion and debate. The audience (normally comprising a variety of advisers, investors and companies) will then discuss each presentation and give their own feedback on a "round-table" basis. The aim of these events is to help the presenting companies by giving constructive feed-back on their presentations with a view to helping them take their company to the next level. The event will also provide excellent networking opportunities for the audience members and given them a chance to reflect on the key strategic issues that face their own businesses. The events are modelled on the successful initiative at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Event Description:

Oxy-Gen Combustion – David Tonery, Managing Director

Oxy-Gen Combustion is a University of Dundee start-up who provides enabling technology for low temperature fuel lean combustion called Homogenous Charge Compression Ignition. It enables a 15-30% reduction in fuel comsumption and CO2 emissons along with near zero NOx and particulate emissions.

Recognised by industry as a key technology on the roadmap for the future it is expected to dominate the internal combustion engine market for decades to come. However only Oxy-Gen Combustion can produce a commercially viable HCCI engine which can deliver the environmental benefits within the next 3-5 years

EnPrint – Rayne Longhurst, Chief Executive

EnPrint® Limited was incorporated in March 2009 and is the first venture of its kind from the Scottish Crop Research Institute (SCRI) Group in Invergowrie, Dundee. It is responding to EU legislation that is driving a need for rapid, quantitative and accurate assessment of water quality – to ensure all water bodies achieve “good” ecological status by 2015.

Biological quality elements are useful indicators of water quality, and EnPrint offers a range of services for micro-organism analyses that allow accurate assessment of ecological status to ensure compliance with the legislation.
Based upon molecular fingerprinting methods, the service is capable of high sample throughput due to parallel sample analysis. This offers significant benefits to customers and regulators in the water industry, decreasing sample turnaround time, increasing sample numbers, as well as providing accurate results that ensure compliance with existing legislation.

The Innovation Portal

The Innovation Portal has been established to promote and facilitate productive knowledge transfer between the three project Partners (University of Dundee, University of Abertay Dundee and the Scottish Crop Research Institute) and Scottish SMEs.  The Portal offers:

·         A central point of contact for SMEs wishing to collaborate with the Partners

·         Assistance to companies in accessing relevant sources of funding together with the relevant resources, expertise and facilities

·         A small grants scheme, whereby academics can work with SMEs to identify potential opportunities for innovative new projects. These take the form of one day Initial Technology Audits (ITA) and more in depth Technology Feasibility Studies (TFS) providing a grant up to £5,000.  To date a number of successful ITAs and TFSs have lead to further collaborative projects between participating companies and academics through Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, consultancy etc.
