Event Event Name:People - The last source of competitive advantage - BREAKFAST EVENT Event Summary:By definition a company is a group of people and it is these people that set the strategy and deliver its objectives. In this Business Forum we have two organisations who understand the value of recruting, developing and supporting staff so that they are at the very HeaRt of a business. Event Description:
1st Presenting Company

HCS  is an HR Consultancy company and was established in 2004 by Denise Canning (Chartered FCIPD).  She has over 20 years HR experience in Senior Management roles.  The business has grown considerably and now employs 10 permanent professionally qualified consultants.

They have a diverse client base that includes clients across a range of private, charitable and public sectors.

HCS delivers clear and practical advice to support the delivery of long term goals.  Their clients can access subject matter experts as and when the need arises.  They provide on or offsite assistance and have a cost effective Network model for organisations who want to outsource the worry of managing staff and the associated issues. The HCS Network consists of an HR Risk Assessment which highlights areas of risk to the growth of the business, providing options for corrective measures to mitigate those risks. This service also offers online and telephone support, a monthly newsletter along with regular e-bulletin updates.

They also provide their clients with the opportunity to attend their Business Improvement Workshops covering a wide range of subjects in a practical way, providing concise handout materials and pragmatic advice. They also offer a great networking opportunity.

Their key requirement is that HCS optimises the return on investment for every business – regardless of the size and scope. This is not a “one size fits all” organisation but one that carefully considers its' client business before delivering best value. Client feedback and repeat business is what has allowed HCS to grow.

They realise that busy business owners don't always have the time or the expertise to be involved in matters relating to staff recruitment, contracts, policies and procedures and disciplinary issues – but they do want to be sure they have the best people dealing with these matters on their behalf.  For more information contact us on 01417766456 or alternatively email enquiries@humancapitalservices.co.uk or visit our website: www.humancapitalservices.co.uk.

Presenting for HCS - Cate Ritchie

In 2002 Cate was appointed a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (FCIPD). Her experience in operational HR started in retail management with Marks and Spencer plc.  She moved into wholesaling, working for Watson and Philip plc for six years in a variety of HR, training and development roles. Latterly she managed the HR function of the cash and carry division, whilst also sitting on the Council of the Scottish Wholesale Association, providing strategic support in training and development to the wholesale sector.

In 2000 Cate moved into the education sector, as HR and Development Manager at Dundee College – then Scotland’s largest college.  She was involved in many sector wide initiatives to share best practice and served on the Board of the Scottish Further Education Unit (SFEU) which supports Scotland’s colleges. Cate was instrumental in developing a model of resourcing that added discipline to the way teaching hours were costed and allocated – linking teaching productivity to finance and in turn to recruitment.  This model resulted in Dundee College being regarded as one of the most financially stable colleges in the sector and to many other colleges adopting this process of resourcing.

During her tenure at Dundee College, Cate worked closely with teaching and support staff Trades Unions and lead salary negotiations that resulted in maintaining staff morale whilst still achieving challenging financial targets.

Cate is qualified to British Psychological Society Levels A & B in Psychometric Evaluation which she uses for the purposes of recruitment and selection, employee outsourcing, employee development and 360º feedback. A  powerful tool to support and effect change, Cate provides individual feedback and development plans to support both individual and organisational growth, using psychometric profiling.

A lay member of Employment Tribunals Scotland since 2003, Cate ensures that her knowledge of current and evolving employment legislation is current and appropriate for Human Capital Services' clients and provides a knowledge base for the articles she writes for a number of trade publications.  Her knowledge and understanding of current employment law ensures that HCS can provide up to the minute support and advice that mitigates their clients from business risk of costly employment tribunals.
