Event Name:People - The last source of competitive advantage - BREAKFAST EVENT
Event Summary:By definition a company is a group of people and it is these people that set the strategy and deliver its objectives. In this Business Forum we have two organisations who understand the value of recruting, developing and supporting staff so that they are at the very HeaRt of a business.
Event Description:1st Presenting Company
In 2002 Cate was appointed a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (FCIPD). Her experience in operational HR started in retail management with Marks and Spencer plc. She moved into wholesaling, working for Watson and Philip plc for six years in a variety of HR, training and development roles. Latterly she managed the HR function of the cash and carry division, whilst also sitting on the Council of the Scottish Wholesale Association, providing strategic support in training and development to the wholesale sector.
In 2000 Cate moved into the education sector, as HR and Development Manager at Dundee College – then Scotland’s largest college. She was involved in many sector wide initiatives to share best practice and served on the Board of the Scottish Further Education Unit (SFEU) which supports Scotland’s colleges. Cate was instrumental in developing a model of resourcing that added discipline to the way teaching hours were costed and allocated – linking teaching productivity to finance and in turn to recruitment. This model resulted in Dundee College being regarded as one of the most financially stable colleges in the sector and to many other colleges adopting this process of resourcing.
During her tenure at Dundee College, Cate worked closely with teaching and support staff Trades Unions and lead salary negotiations that resulted in maintaining staff morale whilst still achieving challenging financial targets.
Cate is qualified to British Psychological Society Levels A & B in Psychometric Evaluation which she uses for the purposes of recruitment and selection, employee outsourcing, employee development and 360º feedback. A powerful tool to support and effect change, Cate provides individual feedback and development plans to support both individual and organisational growth, using psychometric profiling.
A lay member of Employment Tribunals Scotland since 2003, Cate ensures that her knowledge of current and evolving employment legislation is current and appropriate for Human Capital Services' clients and provides a knowledge base for the articles she writes for a number of trade publications. Her knowledge and understanding of current employment law ensures that HCS can provide up to the minute support and advice that mitigates their clients from business risk of costly employment tribunals.
